Taupiri Races.

The annual meeting took place on the course atTaupiri yesterday (S.Patrick's Day). The weather was cloudy but tine. There were about one hundred persons present. The stewards and the secretary did all in their power to stive satisfaction, and they certainly succeeded in their several vocations. The hon. secretary, Mr J. Tinnnins, was most energetic in his endeavours to make everything go off with suc»3Bs, as well as the other officers of the club. Mr Bailey discharged the duties of starter. I have been many a better course but it has never been my lot to attend a rac3 meeting on a worse one. The racing on the whole was good with the evception of the Maiden Plate. The following is a more explicit account of the racing :— Handicap Hurdles, 1\ miles. Prize, £3, with entrance added. Eutrancb, ss. Mr Petty's eh m Nancy, MU. 71b. (owner) ... . . ... 1 Mr McKinnon's br q Argyle, list. (Grady) .... . . 2 MrJWharepouri's b q Piatn, Hht. 3 At the fall of the flag, Nancy went off with the lead, followed by Argyle. Piatu ran round the first hurdle, and was out of the race. Nancy increased her lead to twenty lengths, which she maintained to the finish. Time, 4min. 13 3-sths sees. Maiden Plate of £2 10s ; weight for age. One mile and a half. Entrance, ss. Mr Wharepouri's b q Pietu, 9st 121b ... 1 Mr O'Grady's eh m Fastasleep, Oat 41b . 2 Mr Hiss's br q Kildare, 9st 41bs . 3 Fastasleep went off with the lead for a quarter of a mile, when Petty brought Pietu up and took the lead to the finish, winning by ten lengths, hard held, the x-est tailing off. Randal's b q Ton.inui (owner) ... 1 Mr Petty's eh m Nancy (Jones) . ... 2 Mr Thompson's b m Fidget . . 3 Sybil also ran. Tonamii went off \yith the lead, with Nancy second, the rest in a bunch. When they had gone about a quarter of a mile Nancy broke ; Jones soon steadied her, but could not get nearer than ten lengths of the winner. The others were out of it. Time — smin. 30secs. Cm* Handicap, of £2, with entrance added 4s. Mr Wharepouri's b q Pietu (Petty) . . 1 bg- Wharimu . . 2 Mr O'Grady's b q Argyle 3 Piatu carried 121b over weight, and went off with the lead, with Argylo second, Nancy and Wharimu fatgird aud fourth. The first time round all were together, Piatu pulling double, he maintained his advantage to the end of the race and won hard held. Petty rode him splendidly. Wharimu second, Argyle third. Time 2 mins. osecs. After this race, the people wended their way homewards well satisfied with their day's sport. There was the usual under and over table on the course, but it was not patronised.
