LATEST AUCKLAND NEWS. [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORREESPONDENT.] Auckland, Friday Night.

The Aroha Excursion. A lauge number of excursionists are expected to go to Te Aroha to-morrow, but it is improbable that there will be five hundred as reported.

The Chief Justice. Chief Justice Prendergast will fill Justice Gillios' place temporarily, and is expected in Auckland on the 23rd.

The lonic. Messrs Cruickshank and Company have received advices that the steamship lonic, Shaw, Savill and Albion line, arrived at Hobart this morning, and will probably leave about six o'clock to-night for Auckland direct, arriving here on Wednesday next.

Sadden Death. Mrs Morris, wifo^of Band master Morris of the Garrison Band, w.-m to-day suddenly seized with violent pains accompanied with vomiting. As she was suffering greatly, Dr. Walter was Hent for, but was unable to attend. Ultimately, Dr. Evans was found and went to the house, only to find the unfortunate woman dead. The matter was reported to the coroner, who decided not to hold an inquest, but directed that a post mortem examination be held.

Board of Education- . The Chairman reported that Hogan having failed to complete his security for^ the erection of a class-room at Cambridge East, the next lowest tender, that of R. Kerr, £344 Bs, had been accepted. The Rangiiiohia committee informed the board that they would try to meet their wishes re the appointment of a teacher.
