The Minister for Public Works and the Native Minister leave for the South on Monday. The resignation of Mr Back, Traffic Manager of the Ganterbuiy railways, has necessitated various changes among the officials of the Department. Mr Garsten, who has been in charge of the Wellington section during Mr Ashcroft's absence on leave, has been promoted to the position at Christchurch, just vacated by Mr Back. Mr Carruthers, who has been temporarily in charge of the locomotive department, will probably be shifted to Wanganui to fill a similar position there. Mr Ashcroft has been offered the charge of the Nelson section, and Mr Ronayne, of Greymouth, is to take charge of the Wellington section on his arrival here in a few days. The Samoan representatives left for Auckland this evening, and intend taking passage for Samoa per the 'Frisco mail steamer which leaves Auckland on Tuesday. This morning the Samoan chiefs received a letter from His Excellency the Governor at Christchurch in which he acknowledges a receipt of a communication from the delegates in which they submit proposals for the annexation of Samoa to New Zealand. Sir W. Jervois also mentions in the letter that he had transmitted to the British Imperial authorities the representations made to him by the Samoans at the recent interview in Wellington, and he gives the assurance that immediately on receipt of official despatches, he will communicate with the Sauioan principals. The New Zealand loan agents in London publish a notice in to-night's London Gazette to pay off the -H per cent. 5.50, nearly three millions, on the Ist of August. Holders are to ha »c the option of receiving a hundred and one of four per cents, instead of cash, for each hundred. A shipment of over 200,000 salmon ova has been sent by the lonic foi this colony.
