Since the decision of the Island 13ay Cup, betting on the Wellington aiid Dunedm Cups his been completely paralysed, the easy win of Nelson leading to the general conviction that he has only to continue well to win both event*. On the first blu-h of his victory at Island Bay fielders asked fm 0 to 4 about his chance for tho Wellington Cup, but a slight reaction has since set in, and lu&t night even money and 6 to o to small amounts was hid against him. Waitiri was the only other candidate in demand, and about her 3 to 1 was t.vken in a few cases. Offers to lay 8 to 1 against Pasha, Administrator, and Speculation met with no rc&ponip. For tin; Dunedm Cup Nelson's pi ice is 3 to 2 offeied, and about any other 10 to 1 can ba h.id for the asking. For the double, Wellington and Dimedm Cups, Nelson has been backed at 5 to 1, and the best offer i« )io\v 4 to 1.
