Cambridge West.

The annual meeting of householders of the Cambridge West bchool district wa=i held in the schoolroom on Monday, at 7.30 p.m. There were 17 present, and Mr T. W. Hicks was voted to the chair. Tiie chairman of the committee (Mr Tuck) read the loort, also the accounts of receipts and expenditure, the same having been audited and found correct by the provincial auditor. Mr Tuck said the outgoing committee was of opinion that the compulsory clauses of the Education Act should be brought into force. Morj than one family in the district neglected to sond their children to school, althongh within ten minutes' walk of the school. One of the householders enquired, if they refused to bend them, could not they be compelled. The clauses of the act were read. The following were duly nominated :—: — Messrs Win. Tucker, Robt. Nickle, Edvvaid Allen, Charles Jarrett, William Howie, T. W. Hicks, H. Fitzgerald, Jas. Hicks and John Jarrett. A ballot was taken for the above nine, with the following result :— Wm. Tucker, 10; Nickle, 18 ; Allen, 16 ; Clias. Jaitetfc, 9; Howie, 18; T. W. Hicks, 17; Y\Ugerald, 17 ; J. Hicks, 4 ; J. Jarrett, 4. The Chairman declared the first seven duly elected. A vote of thanks was given to the out-going committee. Mr Tuck replied on behalf of the committee.

Immediately after the public meeting, the first meeting of the committee was held, when Mr Edward Allen was elected chairman, and Mr Hugh Fitzgerald secretary.—lt was lesolved that the chairman and secretary be the persons appointed to sign all cheques. It was also tesolved that the chairman ascertain from the teacher the names of those who do not attend, so as to bring the compulsory clauses into operation. The meeting then adjourned.
