ANNIVERSARY DAY.

-• , To-day, the Anniversary of the Province, will be observed as a public holiday. The banks and business places will be closed. The only public attraction in Waikato are the Te Awamutu Racks whioh come off on the course adjoining; the township, and give promise of providing an excellent day's sport. Special trains have been put on to convey visitors from Auckland and intermediate places to the races, and we anticipate that, weather permitting, there will be a largo number of people on the ground. Every effort lus been made by the committee of management to secure a good day's spoi t, and thoii endeavours have been liberally beconded by hor&e owners. For each of the events a good field will face the st.uter, and some excellent racing may be expected. For the Hurdles theie six enttie~. Considering his lecent performances Quilp .stands highest in tho estimation of the public, and barring accidents he i» pretty certain to pull off the money. The Maiden Plate is an open race. The Cnp appeals to lie between the Snake and Rowi, though Victory may have something to say at the finish.
