GISBOKNE. Saturday. A fatal acciilcnt happened at Patutahi to Mr James Williams, alias Jones, a farmer, who was killed by a stallion (Sir Julius Vogel) on the Agricultural Show Ground. The animal became excited and commenced kicking. One of the kicks caught Williams a terrible blow behind the right ear, which rendered him unconscious. He lived only fifteen minutes.

WELLINGTON, Saturday. An Extraordinary Gazette further prorogues Piuliament until the 14th February next. Sundo,y. The forty-eight hours' walking match between Edwards and Scott was concluded at ten o'clock last night, Scott winning by two miles and five laps (400 yards), From the start on Thursday evening the match was a very even, one until Saturday morning, when Scott assumed a very decided , lead, and from this stage the result was never in doubt. At noon yesterday Scott was leading Edwards by six miles, and although Edwards made several attempts to reduce the gap, these were, unsuccessful, 7 and towards the end of the match Scott showed excellent staying powers, and, amid great cheering, won as above. Neither of the competitors appeared distressect at the conclusion. The attendance throughout the match was very poor.
