THE STEAMER TRIUMPH ASHORE AT TIRITIRI. THE VESSEL IN A DANGEROUS POSITION. [BY TELEGRAPH.-OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Auckland, Friday.
Great excitement was caused in town this morning by the intelligence that the steamer Triumph, which arrived on Mondny under chatter to Shaw, Saville and Co., for the direct service, had run ashore at Tintiri Island, twenty miles from Auckland. The icprut proved true. The steamer left Auckland at eight last night for the Wouth with one passenger, and a portion of original cargo. The pilot loft the vessel at nine and at ton she ian full on to Tintiri at a speed of eleven knots, knocking «i hole in hei foie oonipaitment, which filled. The vessel is still fast m a d.mgeious position, with her bow ihinly held. Her stern is afloat in seventeen fathoms. The captain was on the budge when she stiuck. He offers no explanation.
