The Transvaal Difficulty. Capetown, October 5. Telegrams received from Pretoria announce that the Volli^raad has concluded its consideration of the ' report of the Committee appointed to decide upon the ratification or rejection of the Transvaal Conventipn ? and it has further transpired that in accordance with" the orders of the Volksraad, President Kruger has telegraphed to the Imperial authorities in London that it has been decided that the Convention is contrary to the spirit' of the treaty. A protest is moreover made against the 1 provision for the revival of the clauses of the Convention, and their modification is requested.
Itank Rates, London, October 5. The Bank of England to-day raised the rate discount to 4 ,pcr t cent.
The Frozen.Meat per Orient. <'-'"■ ih " 3i6kt»OK, October 5. Mutton brought "x" x per the steamship Orient from Australia realised an average of 6d per pound at Smithfield Market. The condition of the meat was superior to that of previous shipments.
