FIRE IN GHRISTCHURCH. [BY TELEGRAPH, PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Ohristchuroh, Wednesday.
A FIEE broke out to-night afc 8 o'clock by which three cottages in Tuam- street were burned. The owner of one went out and left a kerosene lamp burning at the back of his house, and, as the fire originated there, the lamp is supposed to be the cause. Water was scarce, and with difficulty a large bakery and shop adjoining were saved. The insurance on Mr Kissel's house is £125; furniture, £120 — both in the New Zealand. Everything was lost. The othor two cottages belonged to Mr Taylor, the owner of the bakery, and were insured in the Victoria, bat for what amount Mr Taylor would not say. The occupants saved their furniture, but it was much damaged.
