Thr opportunity for getting 1 the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association to appoint a committee to act with the Joint committees of the Cambridge Farmers' Club and .the Hamilton people now presents itself. The annual meeting of, the Association for the election of officers, &c, takes place on Tuesday next, immediately after the sale, when this business, as well as other special business of the meeting, can be taken m hand. North t South Island Railway Works. — Mr Seymour made one point m his speech m referring to the Railways Bill introduced last session. He said : — "The sum put down for North Island railways was m his (Mr Seymour's) opinion little better than a mere sham. The Awamutu-New Plymouth line, for example, for which £1,115,000 was set apart, passed through the King country, which was not open, and through which the survey could not be made, let alone the line itselt be carried out. Mr Macandrew, on the other hand, would take good care that the 315^ miles for the South would be carried out. Indeed they would find a perfect net work of railway lines m Otago and Canterbury, and that before long. Elsewhere, as little would be done as he (Mr Macaudrew) could possibly help." An extraordinary and surprising entertainment will be opened at LeQubsne's Hall, Hamilton, this evening, and will be > continued on Monday and Tuesday evening next, as will be seen by our advertising columns. The Auckland. 'Evening Star,' writing en the exhibition, says : — " The modern miracle, designated 'Fatima,' was exhibited on Saturday evening, m Queen street, and attracted successive crowds as spectators. The people wondered whether the pretty face of the young lady was really human or composed of wax-work, and one person declared that he had seen the beautiful bust m the window of Mr Short, the hairdresser, across the way. There was no mistake, however, about the matter, when the face was seen to smile and the lips move over thp pages of a book ; the movements of the lingers were also evidences of individual life. The description as follows will give a just index of the whole : — In the middle of a square, formed of chintz draperies, is placed a table, or rather a circular slab of wood, about one inch thick, resting on four skeleton legs, under which is seen the draperies on the walls. On top of the table, six inches from it, is a smaller table or tripod, and apparently resting on this tripod is the living bust of a young woman. Below the waist is a perfectly blank space, with merely the edges of the table and tripod intersecting the line of sight. The young lady who thus consents to be partly cut off from the world, appears to be m a perfectly easy position, and reads, fans herself, or gazes upon visitors m a manner which denotes the utmost comfort. . The spectator only stands about eight feet from the table, but short as the distance is, the illusion is complete, and, so far as the eye is concerned, the deceit id perfect." Messrs J. D. &K. Hill will sell, this day, at noon, without reserve, a number of Fifty-acre Allotments. They will also hold their regular fortnightly sale of produce at the usual time, instead of at two o'clock. Ma Moses, of Hamilton, is advertising bargains iii Josephine kid gloves, bought m the insolvent estate of Mrs Butterworth. We learn that Mr James Bell, ' of Wairoa, has become the purchaser of the Messrs G-oodfellow's magnificent twoyear old entire colt, the produce of the prize mare they lately imported >from Victoria. The colt is by Lord Derby, the property of Messrs Goodfellow, and well hnown as a first-class heavy draught stallion. Mr McMinn's meeting with bis constituents will take place to-day, m the Public Hall, Te Awemutu.
