The Waikato Times.

SATURDAY, APRIL 19, 1879.

Equal and exact justioe to all men, Of whatever state or persuasion, religious ..or political. Here shall the Press the People's right maintain, Uhawed by influence and tmbribed by ' gain.

The alterations effected m the running of the trains on the Auckland' Waikato railway, with the object of cheapening the cost of working the Hue, have, at any rate, met with many objections from sections of the public using it. We pointed out on a previoas occasion the inconvenience inflicted, on up-country settlers wishing to send their cattle to the Auckland markets, haw impossible it is for them to drive their cattle from their farms to the Ohaupo Station by 8 a.m. on the same morning that they leave home, and how irapoasible it is with safety to the cattle, to drive them overnight to the station cattle-yard m readiness for the next morning train. As it is, ths cattle train leaves Ohaupo at 8 a.m. each day, taking with it such passenger carriages as are required. The hour is too late to suit passengers, too eaply too suit cattle owners. What we proposed was that this train should leave Ohaupo twice a week not earlier than 10 a.m, and on the other four as early as 6 a.m. Thus both days sections of the Waikato public would bo satisfied with the compromise, tbo visitor to Auckland who desires to leave that city again by the afternoon train and the farmer who has cattle to send to tho Auckland market. We really do trust that the railway authorities will give th 9 matter their earnest attention. We do not ask for increased mileage traffic on the line, but that the trains now run may be so'run as to give the greatest possible amount of accommodation to all sections of the public. ' Another grievance resulting out of the April time-table has been brought to oar notice, by which the outdistrict' of Baglan has been very seriously affected, as far as its correspondence with Auckland is concerned. Since the

alteration, letters written from Raglan, instead of reaching Auckland by the Wednesday and Saturday morning trains, are now detained m Ngarua\yalria until late m the afternoon, and do not arrive at Auckland until next moraine, wy which time the up-country nidils have gone out, and it is thus impossible fco obtain an answer by return of post. Under tho old regulations, the letters rejfehed on Wednesday and Saturday, and were delivered m Auckland by 2 p.m., which arungeraent gave correspondents ample time to reply by outgoing mail, T?hus taking away one of the greatest advantages which was expected to have been derived from the new Raglan and Waipa road. This, too, is a matter, which if the authorities can rectify, wo would ft m bring before their notice.
