ALEXANDRA. INTERESTING PONY RACE.
* -January 12th, 1876. A feVrß came off in Alexandra, on Monday, between the well known ponies Lanty i»od RutMlio, there was a nflmerons attendance, aod much interest taken in the match, betting slightly in favor of Lanty. A good lst*rt was effected and the running was a»#|c and neck for three quarter* erf & mile, when Rustic drew ahead and won '«»il>. Tb* result of £he polling "here took everyby surprise, as it was the general r^opiuum that JMeMinn would have tad a large majority. There was very little excitetnerit during the day> but after j the declaration of the poll our usually quiet village was treated to a greut deal of not very complimentary oratory. We l ean only hope that the beat man has been returned, and that -he will be as \rseful to his oppowefats sis to his frienda. Let him remember that be has a large minority to represent. — From a Coriu-spondent.
