4> MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting held on Thursday was attended by Messrs J. C. Thomson (chairman), F J Linscott, F J, Dyer, J. G. Johnston, W. B. Hopcroft, Geo Charlton. J. H, Smith and Miss Hunt

—Correspondence.— Three applications wer e received for outdoor relief, two being for temper ary relief, which were granted. The third application was left in the hands of the Secretary to deal with. It was decided to recognise no liability in reference to any claims that might be received on behalf of four Wallace patients admitted to the Southland Hospita.l during the past .month. The Otautau District Nurses' committee wrote asking the Boa id- to pay out of fees a number of small accounts incurred by the local committee. —Resolved that the Board had no power to pay money out of fees. In response to a request from the Wallace Board at last meeting a number of Northern Boards replied thai they were quite agreeable to enter into reciprocal. arrangements in regard to treatment of patients from the respective hospital districts. A few preferred nofc to enter into agreements in the meantime. In accordance with notice of motion Mr J. H. Smith moved that the resolution passed at a meeting of the Board in July relative to the setting up of two private surgical wards at the hospital be rescinded. This was seconded by Mr Hopcroft and carried. '.'-•■'■'-.

The Waipiata Sanatorium committee advised the Board that it would be necessary for the Associated Boards to elect a representative on the Sanatorium committee. The committee also stated that the agreement with the Board would expire in December. It was resolved to inform the Waipiata committee that it was not the intention of the Wallace Board to renew the agreement. Mr J. C. Thomson was elected representative for the remaining portion of .the term.

The Waipiata committee also wrote in reference to the X-ray plant, recently installed at the Sanatorium and asked for the Board's proportion of cost viz., £72, Jj wa s resolved that £2O be forwarded in the meantime. \

Mr Johnston reported on the sale of a small disused range at the Nurses* lrome Nightcaps.—Action approved. The Surgeon-Superintendent reported for the month as follows:—Patients remaining from previous, month—l 7 males 5 females; patients admitted during the month—2o males, 14 females ; total treated—37 males, 19 females; patients discharged—lß males. 12 females ; deaths —1 female; patients remaining—l 9 males, 6 females; Operations—Major 11, minor 10. X-rav outpatients 3. inpatients 13. '

Accounts amounting to £348 lis 7d were passed for payment.
