WOMAN’S DEATH.
SHOCKING INJURIES. STANDING ON TRAM CAR. -AGAINST- POLE. AUCKLAND, June 12. Shocking injuries to her head which proved fatal an hour later were received by Mils Yvonne Wlieadon, aged 28 ; wlieii she came into, violent contact with a centre pol© while standing on the front step of a tramcar in Pitt street this evening. Tim conductor of the tramcar said that Mrs Wheadon and her two children boarded the car at Point Chevalier. When the tram reached Point Chevalier Theatre the children left the car and continued towards the city, • “As :we were coming down Pitt street; a woman who was in the front half of the t r am suddenly left her seat and hurried toward the front platform-,” said tli e conductor. “She looked oven the chain on the right-hand side of the platform and stood for a moment on tbe step. She was immedi-ately-struck violently against a centre pole and knocked, front the step on to the roadwity.”
Mrs Wheadon was suffering from grave head injuries and died i» the hospital. She is survived by her husband am) t-wo children. Her husband left- home for a camp in th© countiy this moiling. The children, who are young, are being cared for by friends.
