The annual report was published in our last issue and showed that the past year had been a very satisfactory one, the sum of l/'Bfd per lb butterfat being paid. Mr Cormack moved the adoption of the report and balance-sheet. As' would be noticed they had sold their cheese and had come out very well. Unfortunately the repairs to the boiler had been somewhat expensive, but this work would last for some time. This year they were installing another 1000 gallon vat. The prospects for the coining year were hopefhl. They would have to take into consideration the question of building a new • factory. The report was seconded by Mr W. B. Hopcroft, who stated that the past season had been a very satisfactory one for shareholders. The retiring office-bearers, Messrs

Geo Willis and John Stewart were reelected. Both gentlemen returned thanks.

Mr T. Molloy said they had a butter plant" and should mak e their own butter instead of sending cream away. He moved accordingly. Seconded ' by Mr Jones. In reply to a question from Mr McCaw, the Chairman said the manager had full control of the factory. After a good deal of discussion an” amendment was moved and carried by a substantial majority that the cream be sent away as in the past year. The balance-sheet showed receipts from sale of cheese £22,609 8/5, sale of cream £BO3. The sum of £20,058 was paid out to milk suppliers, salaries and wages absorbed £1095 1/5. A communication was received from the Southland and Otago Cheese Factory Manager’s Union in regard to . grading of milk for cheese-making by the Metheng 0 Blue Test with a differential payment according to grade as determined by such test. After a short discussion it was decided not to support the proposal. In reply to a question from Mr McCall. the chairman stated that the factory would be ready to receive milk for the opening of the season.

Mr McCall moved and Mr Stewart seconded that two directors be appointed to inspect the factory and plant every month .-^-Carried. A recommendation that; cheques be paid on the 10th instead of the 15th of each month was lost.

It was resolved that all employees of , the factory wear white clothes.

■ Mr Barron said in view of the heavy cost of repairs the time had arrived for butluing a new factory. Mr T. Molloy said the directors should obtain estimates for a new factory and call a general meeting of shareholders to discuss the matter.

Mr McCall said the money ought to be obtained for a new factory from the Advances to Settlers department.

After some further • discussion it was resolved that the directors obtain an estimate of the cost of erecting a new factory and report at a future meeting of shareholders. Mr Prentice suggested that the directors get full particulars in regard to modern plant and appliances. In the course of a discussion on control boards Mr Stewart said Control Boards should be wiped off the slate. The members of these boards were only after money. There were; too many boards in the dominion.

Air Stewart moved that supplies from the South Island Dairy Association be discontinued through the factory. Seconded by Mr Willis. The motion on being put was lost. At the Director’s meeting held afterwards Mr Cormack was appointed Chairman.
