OHAI RAILWAY BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Ohai Railway Board, held on Friday, was attended by Messrs A. W. Rodger (chairman), W. Crawford', D. D. Macdonald and W. Excell. Leave of absence was granted to Messrs J. King, jW. J. A. McGregor and D. Jardine. The chairman reported having settled with the Railway Department for the adjustment of the weighbridge. When in Wellington recently he interviewed the General Manager of Railways with reference to the u c e of Southland coal on tiie Government railways. The General Manager met his representations sympathetically, and asked that the application should be renewed after the end cf the current financial year. The matter was left to the chairman to deal with.

The chairman also reported that offers were available for "the supply of 40lb ran*. It was decided to leave the procuring of thege in the hands cf the chairman and Mr Crawford. »

Correspondence was received with reference to~"extra siding accommodation at Wairio.—No action was taken.

The Birchwood Coal Company and Stevenson's Ohai Colliery applied for siding accommodation at Moss-bank. It was resolved that the Engineer be requested to visit Mossbank"as' early as possible, fix the sites, and lay out the siding; on the date being decided on the clerk to notify all the companies interested to meet the Board and the Engineer.

Mi' A. Mcßride applied for a gateway on his property. Applicant to be advised that the Board is prepared to put a gate in the present fence line, and that any responsibility for nock trespassing would then lie with Mr Mcßride. Applicant also to be advised that if he wishes the railway severance fenced it would be a mutual arrangement under the conditions of the Fencing Act, for each party to pay half cost. The Under-Secretary of- the Public Works forwarded copies of gazetted regulations for the payment of members' expenses. The clerk was directed to communicate with ' the audit inspector and have the procedure agreed: upon.. Mr H. Messrs A. L. Ohisb.ol.mi and T. W. Soper and Son offered to supply red birch sleepers.—Writers to be advised that the Board has purchased sufficient stocks of hardwood sleepers to meet its present requirements.

Accounts amounting to £659 10s 7d were passed for payment.
