RIVERToIN AGAIN THE HOLDERS

The coveted li Stars" have been in possession'of, the Orepuki Club for soine time, and several attempts have been made by other clubs to wrest them from the holders. The Riverton Club thought they had been] long enough in the Western township, and' a rink consisting ofWillett (s), Patrick, Buddie and Hall challenged, and visited Orepuki yesterday, v afternoon by motor, when they met the holdere —Plank (s), Giardcn, Burley aud ,McAlister—and after- a pleasant giuno were successful; 'by 19 points to 13. The Riverton team were.'-strong, in scoring throughout the game, and- the issue was never in doubt. The, members of the rink were hospitahly entertained and heartily congratulated by the local men. The journey by motor was a. pleasant one, and was accomplished in an hour, the toad being in good order. •■ . '

The Southland rink shield will be competed for in ' Invercargill tomorrow. The. Riverton Club will be represented by S. L.. Beer (s), S. Bailey, T. King and R. [Jrc; The Aparima v. Riverton match will ibe played on the Ist March, and, consequently Club competitions will be played to-morrow. The new pavilion at the Riverton green will be opened on the 15th inst. The Western District singles and doubles championships will be played on loth February. The singles will commence on the Aparima. "green .'it 8.30 a.m. sharp. Time limit, 35 minutes, or 16 heads. Final, _2l heads. Limited to two entries from, each of the five clubs. The doubles competition will take place on the Riverton green at 1 o'clock.
