POTATO GROWERS.
OREPUKI ASSOCIATION FORMED. Mr B. Hughes, of Temuka, secretary of the Potato-growers’ Association, visited Orepuki on Wednesday and addressed a number of farmers on the aims and objects of the Association which, briefly, to protect the grower. Mr Brownridge presided over the meeting, which was held in Wilson’s Hotel. After Mr Hughes’s address had been delivered it was unanimously decided to form a local association, and about 25 members; were enrolled. The meeting also affirmed the resolutions passed by other branches of the Association protesting against the practice of merchants not paying growers for sacks. It- was resolved to hold a further meeting on Wednesday next, and to send two delegates * to the next conference of the Association.
