ANNUAL MEETING

Tho annual meeting was held! on Thursday, there being present : .Messrs Jno. Horrell, F. J. Dyer, J. C. Thomson, Jno. McNaughton, S. Fowle, E. J. Stevens, T. A. Buckingham, and J. Johnston.

Mr Stevens moved that Mr ?lcNaughton -be nominated ,for the position of Chairman.—Seconded by Mr Thomson. There being no further nominations Mr McNaughton was duly elected.—Mr McNaughton briefly Returned thanks for the honour conferred on him. With the hearty cooperation of members he would do his best in carrying out the work? of the Board. The following sub-committees .were appointed;—Hospital and Visiting Committee—Chairman, Messrs Horrell, Thomson, and Stevens. The Chairman and Messrs Stevens and Thomson were appointed to sign, cheques. The whole Board were elected a Finance Committee.

It was resolved that the meeting be held at the usual hour, viz., 11 o’clock on the Thursday preceding the third Friday of each month. The Chairman and Messrs Buckingham and Stevens were appointed a Property Committee.

—Ordinary Business.—

The Secretary reported having visited a family in the Otautau district, and recommended that a further sum he given to the family during tho time the mother was in hospital.— Secretary’s report adopted.

A. letter was received from the Secretary of the Baird Benefit Committee' conveying the thanks dff the Committee for the interest shown, by the Board in this case.—-Received. It was decided to increase the outdoor relief to a local resident by 5/per week. T. H. A. Valentine, InspectorGeneral of Hospitals, wrote stating that the Hospital Conference would sit in Wellington on Ist June.—lt was resolved that the Chairman, and Mr Thomson and' Secretary be appointed the local Board’s delegates. The Chief Health Officer, Wellington, wrote stating that in the event of a. recrudescence of the influenza epidemic the Defence Department had a large number of tents available for hospital accommodation.—Received. Jno. Petehell notified the Board that he would terminate his contract for supplying goods to the hospital on 30th Aprilf in accordance with, terms of tender. —Left to Hospital Committee.

The Surgeon-Superintendent reported as follows:—-Patients remaining from previous month, 19 males, 7 females; admitted, 13 males 7 females; total under treatment, 32 males, 14 females; dischaarged, 13 males, 0 females; deaths, 1 male; remaining in the institution, 18 males, 8 females.

The following donations were thankfully received: Rabbits, from Mrs Bouncy, apples from Mrs Leader, flowers from various friends. The following letter was read from Florence Brown ;—“ I have been doing the ward’s washing at the hospital for the past twelve weeks, and have not received payment for the work. I now enclose a claim of £6, an average of 10/- per day, and if I do not receive the amount before Saturday, will refuse to do the work.”—Left _to Chairman and Secretary to deal with. - Mr McNaughton reported on various works at the Hospital. The work of installing the electric light was nearing completion.—The question of giving Jfao. Church extra remuneration for running the electric lighting plant and securing the sendees of another man to assist was left to the Hospital Committee to report upon. .The Secretary submitted a) statement of the estimated income and expenditure for the year ending 31st Mach, 1921. —It was resolved that the rate be ; the same as last year, viz., one-tenth of a penny in the £• Accounts amounting to £2BO 15s 9d were passed for payment. Before the Board retired Mr E. J. Stevens moved a hearty vote of thanks to the retiring chairman (Mr Jno. Horrell) for the exemplary manner in which Ire bad carried out his duties. The motion was carried, by acclamation. Mr Horrell briefly replied, thanking the members for their Kind remarks.
