OTAUTAU TOWN BOARD.

The monthly meeting, held in the Board Room on Monday evening, was attended by Messrs E. Harrington (Chairman), R. B. Collett, L. J. Brown, Robt. Scatter, G. H. Stevens, D. -McNeil and W. Fi’aser.

T. J. Walker, poundkeeper, complained re several residents whose stock was continually on the streets, and explained that he received nothing for the time he lost when summonsing persons. —Decided that the Pouudkcepcr be allowed £5 a year as .rancor, and that he be reminded to take action again offenders. Fred McDonald asked permission to transfer section to Mr I'. >1- Best.---Approved. A. N. Holmes and Co. asked for a crossing to (heir Business premises.— ■Granted; to be put in concrete. ■ Jno. Stead, Mayor, Invercargill, asked that a delegate be appointed on the Entertainments Committee for the visit of the Prince l of Wales; also that the Board supply a banner with “ Welcome” inscribed upon it to hang across the street. —Banner to be supplied. A. A. Liddell asked that something be done to the water-table near his property.—Left to ‘Works Committee. A. Fraser complained that one of the petrol lamps had not been repaired, and had been in this state since last June.—Left to Chairman to attend to. It was decided that the street lamps be lit from; Tuesday, 13th inst. Mr A. Fraser was appointed lamp lighter at same salary as last year. .Secretary, Tennis Club, asked that rates be remitted, as the Club was not in a. sound financial position. —Approved. It was decided that the Tennis Club’s and Bowling Club’s overdue rates be written off, and that they be exempted from rating during the pleasure of the Board, in view of the amount of money that they spend on the property, which belongs to the Board. Secretary, Otautau Football Club asked to rent the Town Hall for their

quadrilles at a reduced rate. —To be • charged same as last year —20/- and 30/-. It was decided that the spare room; in the Town Hall be furnished, the old piano put in, end that the room be let for 5/- without, and XOJ-, with the piano. - Surfaceman to obtain. 50 yards of wire netting for protection of concrete crossings while being put in. Decided that Mr Stevens arrange a date for testing the fire engine. Decided that the Town Hall caretaker’s salary be increased from £3O to £4O per year. It was resolved that- the Chairman of the Board call a public meeting to consider the erection of a soldiers’ memorial. A member reported that some pig styes had been erected in contra, tiou of the by-laws.—lnspector of nuisances to attend to the matter. The surfaceman was appointed Inspector of Nuisances for the town, and was instructed to collect fees from all hawkers,..etc. Decided that the attention of the police Be directed to vehicles, etc., running at night without lights and exceeding the speed limits. The Clerk submitted the balance sheet.
