NIGHTCAPS TOWN BOARD.

(Own Correspcndant.) The monthly meeting o'f the Nightcaps Town Board; was held on Monday evening, there being present Messrs R. Irwin (Chairman), D, Sinclair, .senr., J. 0. Clapp, senr., A. Capitaneas. A deputation consisting of Messrs F. Gibbon, J. Lysaght, and M. Hammill, representing the Medical Association and the Miners’ Union, waited on the Board to see how far it was prepared to go in the direction of erecting a doctor’s residence. The Medical Association had don© their share in guaranteeing a yearly sum towards a doctor’s salary, and they thought that the Board might take a hand in the matter in canvassing the outside district for support towards a residence. It was realised that no doctor would stay in the town unless he had a suitable house.—After hearing the deputation, it was decided to offer to go into combination with the Medical Association and the Miners’ Union, and do something in the matter, three of the Board members to attend, to it.—-The deputation thanked the Board for their consideration and withdrew. A communication was read from the Wallace County Council re damage done by their contractors to the wafer-table in Johnston’s road. The Council pointed, out that the agreement between them aud the Board was that they go equal shares iu maintenance of the main roadi. The Clerk was instructed to write and draw the attention of the Council to the fact that damage and maintenance were two different things; the surfaceman to be instructed to- repair the damage, and charge cost of same to Wallace County Council. A communication was read from' the Mayor of Invercargill re sending a delegate to a, meeting to be held in Invercargill to make arrangements for receiving the Prince of Wales Chairman to arrange for a representative to attend the meeting. Stevenson’s Pictures wrote re pencilling dates in connection with the Coronation Hall. The Clerk was instructed to write demanding payment tor the hall whether it had been used by the picture proprietory or not, as it had been kept open for them. The secretary of the Nightcaps Baud wrote asking for the use of the hall for weekly quadrilles, if the R.S.A. ■ were willing to give up their prior claim.—The Band to have the hall if! the R.S.A. did nob want it, at the! usual fee. ' Mr V, Pemberton applied for the lease of two Crown sections.—Board had no jurisdiction. Miners’ Pictures applied for an operator’s box to give more room in the hall for seating accommodation. — The clerk to 1 ascertain, cost of same and to report before acting. J. Panmenter, Otautau, wrote that owing to the rise in the price of leather he could not supply dog collars at the price agreed to, and asked if the Board would allow an extra charge.—The clerk said he had made arrangements to have the collars made locally, and his action was endorsed. Police Department wrote that Government property was not subject to general rates.—Received. Matters connected with the lighting scheme were further discussed.—The clerk was instructed to arrange for a meeting of ratepayers on Thursday at 7.80 p.iu. to lay all available information before them, iu preparation for a poll to be taken on Saturday re raising a loan to build additions and alterations to the Coronation Hall. Accounts amounting to £2(j 14s fid were passed for payment. In connection with the proposed erection of a post office, the Chairman was authorised to interview 1 the Chief Postmaster in Invercargill in the matter of having a posting lobby in connection with the building when it is built. The hall piano required overhauling, and it was decided to employ Mr McKinnon to do the work.
