The monthly meeting of the above, held on Thursday, was attended by Messrs Jno. McNaughton (chairman), F. J. Dyer, Jos. Lyle, E. K. Smythies, E. J. Stevens, T. Buckingham, and T Johnstone. —Correspondence.— Letters were received from the Waitati, Stratford, Palraerston North, Buller, Hawera, Wellington, South Canterbury, Christchurch, and Waikata Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards endorsing the resolution passed by the Wallace Charitable Aid Board, viz., that the Government be requested to provide an institution for tho compulsory detention of morally defective girls- and women.— It was decided that a coppy of letter* received be forwarded to the Minister of Internal Affairs, through the member for the district, to have the suggestions carried out. . ' An application for relief by a resident of South Riverton was held over. The secretary of the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board forwarded report of Medical Director of Pleasant Valley Sanatorium in reference to a patient from Wallace district.—R«eceived. Correspondence was received from a resident of Clifden in respect to the purchase of a house there from the Board.— It was resolved that he bo given notice to pay the final instalment before next meeting of the Board. _ The Health Inspector wrote notifying the Board that three cases of fever had occurred during the month in Wallace. —Received. The Registrar of Pensions wrote stating that an application came before the magistrate on sth fast for a widow's pension and was refused on the grounds that the Registrar-General was unable to trace the registration of births of applicant's children, and also death of husband.—Received. James Bradley, Clifden, wrote enclosing £1 as a yearly subscription to the Wallace and Fiord Hospital.—deceived with thanks. —Donations. — The following donations were thankfully received: —Rabbits and lamb, from Duncan McLaren (Eastern Bush); celery, Geo. Willis; old linen, Mrs Sinclair; books, Win. Scobie; magazines, Mesdames Armstead and Akhurst; hare, Miss Fitzsimmons (Wairio); Cash received—C, McDougall, £2; Jas Bradley, £1; Opio, per Jas. Johnstone, 10s. —Surgeon-Superintendent's Report.— The Surgeon-Superintendent reported for the month as follows: —Remaining from the previous month, 5 males, 11 females ; admitted during the month, o males, 6 females; total under treatment, 13 males, 17 females; discharged, -1 males, 8 females; deaths, 2 males; remaining in the institution, 7 males, J females. —General. — The Matron was granted one month's leave of absence. The Matron reported that Miss l>Henry, who had served her term as probationer for three months, was giving every satisfaction. Eleven new beds and eighteen chairs would bo required to furnish the new male and side wards. A new clothes-press was required, which could be made locally for £4 or £o>Theso matters were left to the Hospital Committee to cany out Accounts amounting to £248 14s were passed for payment. —Tenders.— Tho following tenders were received for the ensuing year: Groceries, John Pete-hell ; bread, Mrs Clark and Jno. Andrew, month about; meat, J. Robin and A. Smith, month about; coal, C. E. Johnstone; firewood, Geo. Lockett. The Secretary reported that no tenders had been received for milk and butter.— Left to chairman and secretary to deal with. Mr E. J. Stevens gave notice of motion that the scale for treatment in the Hospital b© raised from £1 to £1 5s per week.
