A splendid entertainment was given by'»uhe puj)ils and cx-pupiis of the con vent of ' mercy school in the public hall cq Friday evening, sth Novemfaer.' The hall was crowded, and tho largie audience showed by their freC]Ui3nt applause .and encores how muoh they enjoyed the different items on the programme. All the items were well rendered and gave "evidence of the zealous care bestowed on the young performers by the devoted Sisters of Mercy. The programme consisted of

instrumental and vocal duets, trios, songs, step dance's, dialogued, choruses A farce, "Mrs Brown's new servant," by' ex-pupils, was a capital item. Tho Various characters were sustained by "Mrs Brown," Miss Alice Finn; '''i&lrs Grey," Miss- A. (McDonald ;j''Mrs JoneS)" Miss Bina Tower; "Mrs Black," Miss Fitzsimons ; : r 'iMary Ann* Miss L. Creegan, and all filled their respective roles 'admirably. Special mention must be made of Misses Creegan and Finn, who acted their, parts admirably. The Rev. Father O'Neill presided and at the close thanked the audience for their patronage, and impressed upon the hearers that what they had witnessed that evening was the result of much arduous tnaiMng and considered the Sisters and children deserved very great credit 'for tho fine programme submitted. Rufreshmonts were supplied by itlio ladies of the parish. During "the evening (Mr Applegarth, of Nightcaps, rendered two songs, a wd Mr 11. Burke, of' Wjairio, danced an Irish Jig and a hornpipe. Both performers, were well received. The net .proceeds amount to labout £4O.
