Presentation To Mr John Fisher
On the occasion of Mr Fisher’s wedding to Miss Thomson it was thought fit to show in some tangible way the esteem in which he is held as a Sabboth School Teacher. Accordingly a subscription list was canvassed and it met with signal success. On the past Wednesday, the day of Mr Fisher’s marriage, the present of a purse containing 8 sovereigns was handed to him by Hev. A. Macdonald that he might buy something as a memento. The following inscription, to be put on the memento,.was enclosed in the purse “Presented to Mr John Fisher by the Presbyterian Sabbath School, Otautau, January 24tb 1900.” Mr Fisher feelingly replied and traced the history of his work as a Sabbath-School Teacher, beginning in a small school at Woodend continuing in First Church, Invercargill ; and now in Otautau Sabbath School, where he is superintendent—in all about 20 years. Mr Fisher is but a young man yet and it is something to be able to say be has served so many years in that important branch of Christian work, Mr Fisher has taken part in many things but opart from special calling, Sabbath School work has been his hobby. He retains the fact that without Sabboth Schools we would soon be without churches—we would soon have a race of infidels,-
_By his great love for children aud his genial manner in dealing with them he l}aa endeared himself to the pupils of the Otautau Sabbath School.
