SALE OF DISEASED STOCK.
The question of diseased stock sold at auction sales was introduced at the meeting of the Palmerston North Farmers' Union committee on Saturday After some discussion, Mr Wallis announced that the matter had been taken up by a sub-committee of the A. and P. Association. At present the Stock Act made the purchaser responsible for diseased stock, immediately on the fall of the hammer. It was desired to secure an amendment in the Act, giving the purchaser a day or two's grace to have his stock inspected, bo that in the event of disease, the vendor would be responsible. With this object, a meeting of butchers in adjacent districts, including Palmerston, Fielding and Dannevirke, had been held, and the matter was now under way.
