A SHOCKING TRAGEDY.
Says an Auckland wire A girl three years old was murdered oh Saturday at Fakauwabi. Her throat was oat,, atd the wound hacked with a tomahawk. The child’s mother, Amr Stewart, was arrested on a charge of murder. Trouble and poverty are supposed to have completely unhinged the mother’s mind. ... , ... Mrs Amy Stewart, who is charged with the murder of her threo-yeor-old daughter, is 23 years of age. She is the daughter of Thomas Baldwiu, of Pakauwabi, She cut the child’s throat first with a knife, afterwa ds severing the windpipe with a tomahawk. The tragedy occurred on Saturday evening. The woman was brought into Kaikohe by Constable Keen, and the child’s body was brought in for an inquest. The woman’s husband is an old man. He was sent to the Auckland hospital last week, and is not likely to recover. This fact evidently preyed on the woman’s mind. The family have also suffered extrema poverty.
