In some of the Paris museums are to be seen collections of wax models of the flowers of plants of the Eocene age. The story of how these have been obtained is an interesting one. The growing plants were enveloped in calcareous mud, which afterward hardened to travertine. Then the vegetable matter decaying left delicate molds of their form in the rock.
