"TENPENCE CHANGE, PLEASE !"
A novel incident occurred one Sunday at Dudley Parish Church. The idea that a contribution to an offertory might be given with a coin of greater value than the donor wishes to give and receive the balance as change has often been the subject of joke, but on this Sunday such a thing actually happened. . A well-dressed member of the congregation dropped a shilling into the bag. with the busi-ness-like request. “ l enpence change, please ! Without a smile, the sidesman handed over the requited coppers, regardless of the stares of the congregation.
