The Western Star. (PUBLISHED 81-WEEKLY.) WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25, 1891.

Ratepayers in the Oepuki riding are reminded that the poll in connection with the proposal to borrow £2OOO under the Local Bodies Loans Act for construction of Riverton-Colac road will be taken to-morrow. It is almost superflous on our part to point out the advantages that will be derived by settlers in the riding from the construction of this piece of road, as these have been frequently set forth in our previous issues, and in another column two correspondents have adduced a number of powerful arguments in support of the work, which we heartily endorse. In fact, no good and sufficient reason has been shown why any ratepayer in the riding should oppose the measure. As pointed out by our Oraki correspondent, the maintaineuce of the present, corduroy track costs as much as would pay the interest and sinking funds of a properly constructed road, so, therefore, the work cannot justly be opposed on the score of expense. It will be well for those desirous of having the road to bear in mind that if they do not go to the poll their votes are counted against the proposal. We trust, therefore, that ratepayers will not fail to exercise their privilege to morrow in favor of the road. ,
