GOOD NEWS FOR. RIVERTON.

TO THE EDITOR. Silt, —I ivad an article in your last Saturday’s issue with above heading, t should say it was, and to all tho farmers and business men within a distance of fifty miles, without thinking on tho great amount of country which lies beyond, tho settlement of which would greatly benefit by the opening of tho Riverton harbour. The assurance of this valuable undertaking would give a sudden start and a sound foundation to tho hona fide settlement of the extensive territory westward. The farmers will require stirring up, but if they were to unite with a wifi, I can’t see what would hinder them from being able to open this harbour. But tho question is : Would the Rivorlonians who hold such a variety of opinions in regard to their harbor facilities ho willing to give farmers and olhers their duo share of the benefit accruing from this recovered wealth? I don’t think (.hut, I would bo inclined to follow my “Old Identity's ” directions, ns tho capital required for opening a mile of railway with all other requirements would go a long way in permanently opening the real harbour. I could not bo made satisfied with tho scheme, unless [ am convinced that a start bo made with a direct intention of getting all vessels momv 1 in the middle of tho town. I will not at present interfere with engineering matters, or the money required foi the undertaking, which is trilling in comparison to the wealth of tho wide and fertile scope of country which tho harbour commands. I am in hopes to hoar more from my friend “ Old Identity.” lie has not como a day 100 soon. —I am, &c., No Sham. Waiau, 21st March, 1301.
