Birch (on behalf of the Nationa Mortgage and Agenoy Company of N.Z., Ltd.) reports on the markets for week ending 30th August, as follows : Since our last report business in nearly all grain has been dull and values remain unshanged at the rates lately ruling. Wheat.—There is no activity to be noted in this cereal, and although the ontside markets continue to show a slight improvement, ours has not responded. We quote (nominally)—.Prime qualities, 3s 6d to 3s 7d ; ordinary, 3s 3d to 3« 4d, delivered in town, sack? weighed in. Theso are about holders reserves, but considerable reductions would have to be made before buyers would think of operating. Oats.—This grain has also passed a quiet week as regards actual transactions. It is expected that the Melbourne market will liven up before long, and we cannot expect any movement here before this takes place. Holders show every intention of sticking to their reserves, and to-day's quotations are:— Prime milling, 2s 5d per bushel j stout heavy feed, 2s 4d to 2s sd, on trucks at country stations, sacks weighed in. Ryegrass. —Prime heavy machine-dressed parcels cannot bo quoted at under 4s 3d to is 6d ex store, sacks extra. Canterbury and the North Island bold very light stocks, and it is more than probable that thpy will have to draw from outside before the season is over. Timothy.—Good mncbine-dressed samples are very soarce and readily command up to 5d per lb ex store; second quality, 4Jd. Tothill, Watson and Co. report on the hide and skin market a 3 follows :—- We held our week'y salo on Monday, the 26th inst., and submitted a fair catalogue to a good attendance of buyers, the whole of which was cleared under keen competition. Following are the prices realised :—■ Sheepskins.—Double flsece crossbred, 5b lld each; others from 4s 3.-1 to 5* 21 fm good; medium do, 2s 4d to 3s Gd; pelts, lid to Is 3d; double-fleeced merino, 5s 7d; Ofc ors, 2a to 3s Gd each.
