EDUCATION BOARD.
The following items of local business transacted at yesterday’s meeting of the Education Board arc extracted from the “News”;— Mr A. Inglis was appointed temporary head teacher, Gropei’’s Bush; and Mrs W. D. McClure, sowing mistress, Thornbury. ' It was also agreed to inform the Riverton Committee that, by tho Board’s rules, they were not entitled to the services of a second assistant. It was agreed to inform the residents of tho Mossburn district that the Board could not see its way clear to establish a school there in tho meantime, owing to the sparse population. It was decided (11 that application be made to tho Southland Waste Lands Board to have section 7, block 8, Waimatuku Flat, reserved as a school site; and (2) that the application of the teacher to bo permitted to lease tho residence would be considered when the name of the proposed tenant and the terms of the lease wore submitted to the Board. miltoe wrote, expressing regret at the d £ termination of the Board not to grant the school the services of a second assistant. For some time the work had been carried on without a first assistant, and that, together with the fact that the weather had been bad had contributed to temporarily bring down the attendance. It ,was now increasing. The Chairman said that clearly at pre-eot the school was not entitled to a second assistant If, however, the attendance was increasing as the Chairman stated, then it woul 1 not be long before they were entitled to such an addition to their staff. —It was resolved that on receipt of the current quarter’s returns the Riverton School Committee’s request for a second assistant would be considered.
