GUMMIE’S BUSH SCHOOL.

10 THE EDITOB. A

SlB, —In your paper of May 20 a letter appeared, signed ‘ Ghinunie’s Bush,’ containing some statements about. the Wild Bush School which are most incorrect, and calculated to mislead persons not cognisant of the real facts. It is stated by Mr Ghnnmie’s Bush that the master gave up Wild Bush School because he could not make a living out. of it, the number af scholars amounting to only twenty. The real facts ace that the Wild' Bush school house was totally destroyed by fire, and no other suitable building could bo obtained in which to carry on the school. The number of pupils attending the school immediately antecedent to the fire was thirty-five, and if the school-house had remained intact,, that number would have been augmented. I deprecate entering into any controversy regarding the respective eligibility of the localities of Gummie’s or Wild Bush schools, but I think as the Board has decided on allowing only one school-house in the district; they have acted judiciously in electing the Wild Bush school, it is also slated that there is a good road to the Gummio’s Bush school from all the* settlers’ houses. I most emphatically deny that, as children-from the Wild Bush and'some other districts woiild be entirely precluded'in wet weather, by tbc badness of the roads they would have'to travel, from attending a school atGununie’s Bush. I do not scc'the soundness of the deduction that a numerical preponderance is any proof-of centrality. Jt is to be hoped that Mr Inspector and friends will;not be quite crushed by the animadversion and terribly withering sarcasm of ‘ Gummie’s Bush.’—i am, &c., A. Gaedbn. V
