VIGOROUS SPEECH
HON. W. DOWNIE STEWART
ON LABOUR POLICY
(Per Press Association). DUNEDIN, Last Night.
Vigorous criticism of the financial policy of the Labour Party 'was expressed by the Hon. W. Downie Stewart, ex-Afinister of Finance, in an election speech aifi Dunedin to-night. Refenring to a statement of Mr M. J. Savage, Leader of the Labour Party, that, taxation had reached its limit and that further taxation was out of the question, Air Stewart said if that was correct the whole policy of the Labour Party must be rieicast. It was because Alt Savage had deffiberaltiely decided that taxation could yield no more harvest that he fell back on an expedient ,so antiquated, so discredited, and so dangferous, that one was astounded at his rashness.
