First Sale of Season

AUCKLAND, This Day.
The first wool sale of the season opened in the Town Hall to-day in the presence of a full bench of buyers, representing the| leading wool consuming countries.
The catalogue contains about 31,000 bales.
Steady and keen competition is evident with an absence of sensation al i sm.
Average wools sold at about Bd. per lb. in the first hour, the best prices being 144 d for Corriedale, 14d for Southdown, and 14 1-4 d for halfbred.
Prices are apparently fully 25 per cent, better than for the corresponding sale of last year, which was exceptionally poor. There were sixty buyers, and a full gallery of spectators. Passings have been infrequent.
Over 90 per cent, of the first cata logue, Dalgety and Co. s offeiings, totalling 64 00 bales, was sold, averaging about Bd.
Quality wool, owing to the cold rainy weather, was scarcely equal to the average of the Auckland production.
On tlte average, prices compared with last November are from 2d to 3|d higher.
