CONFIDENT NOTE

Government Doomed THE DEMOCRAT LEADER , EXPECTS SWEEPING VICTORY MAS'TERTON, Last Night. Confidence that the Democrat Party would have a sweeping victory was expressed by Mr T. C. A. Hislop, leader of the Democrat Party, during the course of addresses ait Tiraumea, Puketoe and Wiaione to-day. In particular he referred to the (election forecasts of the Minister of Finance, Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, and the Leader of the Labour Party, Mr M. J. Savage. “Mr Savage estimates that Labour will win 43 seats, but the Labour Party will be hard put to 'retain its present representation/’ said Mr Hislop. “From (information that has reached me from every part of the country, I am convinced that the present Governmient is doomed. It may deem itself foirtunaitie if 20 of its members are returned at the forthcoming polls. Party Propaganda “One of the most striking feature's of the campaign has beeinl the persistence of the Na’fmnalistls and the Labour Party and the Nationalist Press, in rei'te'rating that the Democrat Party does not connf, and that! it will win very few seats. It is equally striking that by far fJie gneiatest proportion of their .speeches and advertisements and editorials have been directed against the Democrat Party and myself. For a party that does not count we seem to Fave made a remarkable impression. All these statements and the election ‘reviews’ that are now appearing in the newspapers, all repeating the parrot cry that the Democrat Party does Plot count iare simply election Propaganda, put forward in a vain attempt t<o stem The tide of popular favour that is swinging toward my party. “I invite the people to cast their minds back over events during the last month or tiwo. Against whom, have the Government and the Labour Party conccnflnated their attacks? The inrevitable answer is 1 against the Democrat Party. ’ The plain fact of the matter is that both are afraid. The Government realises that it is doomed. The Labour Party know? that its chances of atthinirg the Treasury benches vanished with the advent of my partly. The facts speak for themselves.—The Dominion.
