WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

THE OTANE BRANCH THE MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Otane Women’s Institute was held in the Town Hall on Friday afternoon, Mrs R. H. Tod. presiding over a good attendance.

The motto for the month was “Music is soul embodied in sound.” A letter from the link branch in England was read and intimated that theninstitute was sending the Otane Women’s Institute a worked tray mounted with glass. Several invitations to other institutes’s birthday meetings were received.

Mrs Gordon Collins, delegate, gave a very interesting report of the proceedings of the recent. Dominion conference at Auckland. Mr Millar, Wai-

pawa„ gave a most interesting and instructive demonstration and talk on

gardening, pruning and the growing of

sweet peas. This was greatly appreciated by members. The prize for the best patchwork cushion was won by Mrs A. H. Bull with a handsome exhibit made from old ties. The winners in the oatmeal biscuiti competition were Mrs A. H. Bull 1. Mrs C. Wedd jnr. 2, and Mrs O. Page 3.

It was decided to hold the annual flower show on Tuesday, September 17, and the concert on November 6.

Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Fairhall, Germain, Griffen, and Miss Griffen. The singing of the National Anthem brought to a close a most enjoyable and profitable afternoon.
