SENSATIONAL END

TO WRESTLING CONTEST McCREADY’S CLOSE CALL (Per Press Association) WELLINGTON, Last Night. A crowd that packed the Wellington Town Hall to-night saw a sensational emd to a wrestling bout between Earl McCready and Jaget Singh. McCready, by a submission fall gained with his octopus deathlock in the sixth round, won the bout, but he finished writhing on the canvas as the last gong struck, and was by a matter of a few seconds a lucky man not to have had the contest drawn;. The culmination came exactly one minute before the end of the last round, when Singh stood up with his ferocious Indian deathlock fully applied, but playing to the gallery failed to put on sufficient pressure. McCready held out to the gong, and was carried to his corner, where the dislocated knee was pulled into place.

WADE v. SINGH IN HASTINGS

A COLOURFUL NEWCOMER The glamour of the East is to be brought to Hastings, on the occasion of the Hawke’s Bay Wrestling Association’s next contest, to be held in the Municipal Theatre on Friday of this week. Tn .Taget Singh—a representative of India, and a pupil of the greatest of all wrestlers, “Great Gama” — we have a fine specimen of a man, weighing just on 17 stone and as agile as a tiger. He has already made history in New Zealand, and created something of a sensation in Wellington recently by the use of his specialty, the "Indian Death Lock.” which won him the contest.

Glen Wade needs no introduction to Hastings wrestling followers. His work in all parts of New Zealand has made him known as a man of action, and has match with McCready in Dunedin a few weeks ago is still spoken of as one-, of the best exhibitions seen in New Zealand. Wade possesses phenomenal strength and a wide knowledge of ring-craft, and it will be interesting to see him deal with what, must be somewhat of an unknown quality in Singh.

The plan for booking is at Hall’s, bookseller, Hastings, and patrons are advised to make earlv reservations.
