ANNUAL BALL

WAIPAWA FIRE BRIGADE SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION The Municipal Theatre, Waipawa, presented a very gay scene on Friday evening when the members of the Waipawa Volunteer Fire Brigade held their annual ball, the attendance being probably larger than at any other function this year. The stage had been prettily draped with greenery, and from there Mr Les Henry’s orchestra of five instruments played excellent music for the dancing. The supper extras were played by Miss B. .Hodge’s orchestra, and by Mrs Mita. The floor was in perfect condition, and the function was undoubtedlly a wonderful success. SubSuperintendent M. Moroney very capably carried out the duties of M.C. The tables in the supper room had been very attractively decorated with greenery and vases of flowers, and a delightful supper was enjoyed by everyone. During the evening the Mayor, Mr C. G. Harker, on behalf of the brigade, took the opportunity of thanking everyone for* their generous support, and particularly the ladies’ committee, which had taken in hand the supper arrangements. He also extended a hearty welcome to members of visiting

brigades, representatives being present from Hastings, Havelock North, Waipukurau and Dannevirke. Opportunity was also taken to present to various members of the brigade the honours to which they had become entitled since the last annual ball, as follows. —Superintendent T. Dunn, 2years bar (18 years service); SubSuper. M. Moroney, 2-years gold bar (29 years service); Secretary, A. Collett, 5-years medal; Foreman McDonald, 7-years service medal; Fireman T.
