OBITUARY

MR. JAMES CRAIG IE

A Press Association message from Timaru to-day announces the death of Mr. James Craigie, formerly a member of the House of Representatives and the Legislative Council. He was born in Perthshire, Scotland, in 1851, and arrived in New Zealand in 1867. He was Mayor of Timaru for ten years from 1902, and was in 1908 returned to the House of Representatives in the Liberal interests, retaining the seat till 1922, when he vountarily retired. In the following year he was appointed to the Legislative Council. He was a liberal benefactor to Timaru. His death was due to heart weakness. Air. Craigie leaves a widow, one son and six daughters, also a number of grandchildren.
