QUEENSLAND MATCH A STRONG MAORI TEAM By Telegraph —Copyright -Press Assn. BRISBANE, July 19. The Maori team to play Queensland on Saturday is as follows: —Nepia, Phillips, Hemi, C. Smith, Chase, Reedy, Harrison, Cooper, Whiu, Mataira, Harrison, Whiteley, P. Smith, Rogers, Broderick. R. Atkinson replaces Whyatt in the Queensland team. At the Maoris’ request, Mr. H. Haterill will be the referee. NAPIER’S ALL BLACK MR. D. DALTON FAREWELLED Mr. Douglas Dalton, Napier’s representative in the 1935 All Blacks, was the guest of honour at the State Theatre, Napier, last evening, at a farewell ceremony at which the Mayor, Mr. C. O. Morse, made him a presentation on behalf-of the public. The theatre was crowded, and when Mr. Dalton appeared on the stage he was greeted with enthusiastic applause. Mr. Dalton is a member of the Napier Technical Old Boys’ Football Club. The president, Mr. F. Whitley, Introduced Mr. Dalton to the audience and made reference to his football history. He played in the primary school representatives in 1925 jnd 1926, joined the Technical Old Boys’ Club as a third-grade player in 1930, played junior in 1931 and senior from 1932 to 1935. He represented Hawke’s Bay from 1933 to 1935, and this year culminated a splendid record by being chosen to represent New Zealand. Mr. Morse then presented Mr. Dalton with a wristlet watch, as the public’s appreciation of his success. The Mayor said that with the presentation went the good wishes of every person in Napier. “It is a great credit to the old Technical School to produce the first All Black to be born in Napier,” stated Mr. Morse. “That old school has produced three All Blacks in all and we are very proud of Doug. Dalton. He is a most fortunate man to be selected, and is deserving of praise for his clean-living and accomplishments, which have enabled him to become an All Black footballer. We sincerely hope that he will score all the tries.” In thanking Mr. Morse and the public for the much-appreciated gift, Mr/ Dalton said: “I am going to do my best. It was quite a surprise to me to find that I was in the chosen few.” As he concluded his remarks, he was given three hearty cheers by the audience.
