WOMEN’S INSTITUTE (From Our Own Correspondent) On Thursday afternoon the usual monthly meeting of the Onga Onga Women’s Institute was held in the hall when there was a very good attendance. Several new members were welcomed and for their benefit, as well as for the refreshing of older members’ memory, Mrs D. Campbell gave a very interesting and comprehensive sketch of the growth of the movement, its aims and objects. Mrs Campbell also gave an excellent demonstration on “recovering an old umbrella,” both the talk and demonstration being thoroughly enjoyed, and Mrs Campbell was accorded a very hearty vote of thanks. A refreshing afternoon tea was served after which the 'time passed very pleasantly with a jumbled names competition and community singing, ! led by Mrs Diamond, during which a very enjoyable item was contributed by Mrs Walters, all joining in the chorus.

Splendid entries were received for the best cushion made from a sugar sack, some very effective work being displayed. The judging was kindly done by Mrs Campbell, who placed the entries as follows: —Mrs Beck 1, Mrs Turnbull 2, Miss Cossar 3, Miss L. Carr highly commended. A very enjoyable afternoon was concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. Personal Mr J. Russell is spending a holiday in Greymocth and Christchurch.

Mrs H. Baker is at present a patient in the Waipukurau Public Hospital.
