# WOMEN’S INSTITUTE THE MONTHLY MEETING (From Our Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting of the local branch of the Womens Institute was held in the local hall on Friday afternoon. In the absence of Mrs: Haldane, the chair was occupied by Mrs. B. Diamond. A letter of thanks was received from the secretary of the Library Committee, in connection with the assistance rendered by Institute members during the recent series of euchre parties and dances. A potato peeling competition was won by Mrs. A. Middleton. It was decided to hold the ' next meeting on August 16 th., as the usual date clashes with that of the local school fancy dress ball. The pig’s tail competition, which caused much amusement, was won by Mrs. P. Spackman. The hostess for the afternoon, Mrs. W. Freemantle, provided a dainty afternoon tea. Harbour Board Meeting. On Friday evening in the local hall, Mr. G. Kelly addressed a small gathering of those interested in Harbour affairs. Mr. L. Glenny, a member of the Waipawa County Council, occupied the chair.

School Affairs. The local school was visited last week by Mr. Morland, senior inspector of the Hawke’s Bay district. Inspectors Lewis and Lomas visited the schools at Wakarara. and Makarora. Personal.

Mrs. Haldane, of Blackburn, is spending a holiday with relatives at Masterton.
