ROADS AND BRIDGES

WAIPUKURAU COUNTY REPORT OF ENGINEER The Waipukurau County engineer (Mr R. B. Price) submitted the following report to the council at its meeting on Saturday: — Hatuma Riding During the month the trucks have delivered a total of 444 yards of screened shingle to the Napier-Wel-lington Highway. This road is being brought into shape by the use of the graders and No. 5 scheme. I would like authority to call tenders for blinding the Napier-Welling-ton highway with red metal as provided for in the estimates. This work would be best carried out as soon as possible as it will be the wearing surface before sealing in a few months’ time. The power grader has worked twelve days raking in shingle on main highways and three days on riding roads. Mt. Herbert Riding A total of 248 cubic yards of river shingle has been delivered to the far end of the. Waipukurau-Porangahau section and it will be necessaiy to carry out a little patching before the road will be in good order. Culverts on the Mount Herbert road and one on the Wanstead road have been lengthened. The. grader has worked five days on the main road and two days on riding roads. Purimu Riding A few loads of shingle have been placed on a slippery section of the Tourere Hill and a culvert on Robinson’s Hill has been attended to. The time is drawing' near when it will be necessary to plant willows, etc., on the clay road, as in several places there is a danger of continued slipping on the steep places.
