CHRISTCHURCH WELCOME AN AIR FORCE ESCORT (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 7. Miss Jean Batten flew to Christchurch from Blenheim in her own machine this morning. She was aecordeh an enthusiastic welcome at Wigram aerodrome and again in Cathedral Square. She was escorted from Blenheim by an Air Force ’plane and was met at Kaiapoi by other Air Force and Aero Club machines. The -Mayor, Mr D. G. Sullivan, welcomed her on behalf of the city. AT NAPIER ON AUGUST 8 A CIVIC RECEPTION Miss Jean Batten, the New Zealand aviatrix, who flew from England to Australia, is coming to Napier on ■August Bon a two-day visit. Her arrival will be a. red-letter day for Napier and the Napier Aero Club, commented the Mayor (Mr C. O. Morse) when he heard the news, and Mr Arnold Wright, secretary of the aero club, said it was just the stimulus the club required. A civic reception will be tendered Miss Batten, and members of the Napier Aero Club will endeavour in every way they can to make her visit one which both she and the town will remember. This visit of Miss Batten’s was arranged by Kemball Theatres, Ltd., who have secured from her the promise that she will make a personal appearance at the Plaza Theatre.
