HEAVIEST RECORDED

Snowfall of Last Week IN A MARLBOROUGH DISTRICT MAIL DRIVER’S EXPERIENCE (Per Press Association.) BLENHEIM, This Day. Reports coming to hand from country districts show that last week’s snowfall was probably the heaviest -over recorded at Molesworth. There is still four feet of snow on the flats and all ponds are snowed-- in. Tracks have to Lu cut to maintain communication’ with various buildings, even as low down the valley as Upcot and Glenleo the snow is two feet deep and settlers are completely isolated, the depth of drifts in various passes being impossible to estimate. A mail-car which left Blenheim at 8 a.m. on Friday for the Upper Awatere had covered only 37 miles by 4.30 p.m. and the driver spent the night at Awapiri. On Saturday morning ho pushed on a further four miles, but then had to abandon the trip. On the way back to Blenheim he encountered phenomenal rain and the car became bogged in a water-hole. The driver was not rescued until yesterday afternoon and altogether took three days to cover 80 miles.
