“DREW THE FIRE”

And Then Cried Out

’MmENT BY MR. W. D. FULTON ON DAIRY MARKETING (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. “Through our own actions we 'drew the fire’ and then cried out about the loss of goodwill in Britain, which is entirely a myth. “New Zealand's position is appreciated in England by those who have given any consideration to our difficulties. There is no evidence ever of the loss Gf goodwill. This emphatic statement was made "by Mr. W. Dynes Fulton, deputychairman of the Dairy Produce Board, in a statement to-day on his return from England, where he had closely investigated marketing conditions on behalf of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. “I give it here as my opinion, aftei studying dairy farming methods in Britain, that if imports of butter and cheese* were resuscitated to a level that would increase the grice to the British producer to show him a margin of profit then consumption would drop enormously, and margarine manufactures, which had been reduced by half, would again take the place of butter.” Commenting on the Prime Minister’s criticism of his (Mr. Fulton scable in which he said New’ Zealand need have no fear of serious import restrictions, Mr. Fulton said. Mi. % Forbes says this statement is without foundation and it is up to me to give my authority, Mr. Fulton said that his reply to Mr. Forbes is that confirmation of the cable message sent is unnecessary as it was a statement of facts, but “I have no intention of disclosing the names of the English gentlemen who gave me this information. “The first part of my cable has already been confirmed and only time can tell whether the latter part turns out correct or not,” added Mr. Fulton.
