— Council’s Monthly Meeting HELD THIS MORNING GENERAL MATTERS DISCUSSED The monthly meeting of the Waipawa County Council was held this morning, Cr. N. M. Paulsen (chairman) pre l ‘ding over the following .members: Crs. L. Glenny, C. Thomsen, 8.. '"Lay, J. Butler, and C? F. Bainbridge. The clerk (Mr. F. Holt) and the engineer (Mr. R. W. Bond) were in a tendance. Mate Advances Rates. The Waitomo County Council wrote asking whether the . council would be prepared to support action testing the liability of the State Advances Department for payment of rates as mortgagee of freehold lands. “Some of our ratepayers are interested in the matter,” said the chairman, “but I don’t think it is for the council to agree to bear any share of the cost of a test case. I think the question should be referred to the executive of the Counties’ Association or to the Association’s solicitor, or, failing that, to the next counties’ conference. If we agreed to bear a share of the cost we would not know where it was going to stop.” It was decided to reply stating that the council considered that the matter should be referred to the executive of the Counties' Association.

Dangerous Comer. Mr. H. J. Kendall wrote asking that a warning notice board be put up at Hickey’s cutting, Wakarara, requesting lorries to drive slowly. Cr. Glenny said that the corner referred to was the most dangerousffietween Waipawa and Wakarara, as i there was no room for cars to pass. I Heavy Traffic Fees. < The Commissioner of Transport ad- * vised that all local authorities in the Ng. 5 Heavy Traffic District had agreed to the disposal of heavy traffic license fees for the year ended March 31, 1933, in accordance with arrangements previously communicated. The Napier Borough Council, however, considered that there should be a review of the basis of allocation for 1934. The letter was received.

Otane Dental Clinic. The secretary of the Otane Dental Clinic wrote asking for a grant to help the work of the clinic. Cr. Bainbridge said he did not think there were many children in the Waipawa County who received treatment at the Otane Clinic, but he would like to see a small grant made. A grant of £1 Is was made. Waipawa Cemetery. An application was received for a grant towards the maintenance of the Waipawa cemetery. A grant of £5 from the Onga Riding and £5 from the Waipawa Riding was made. Takapau School. The Takapau School Committee applied for the use of the county plant for repairing the asphalting round the school building. The request was granted.
