ANZAC DAY
WAIPUKURAU CEREMONY ARRANGEMENTS COMPLETED Arrangements for the Anzac Day ceremony in Waipukurau were completed at a meeting of the committee held yesterday afternoon, when the Mayor (Mr. R. McLean) presided over the following members: —Canon E. D. Rice, Capt. E. Askew, Messrs. C. J. McLean, R. L. Cutforth, E. Malkin, A. O. Williams and the town clerk (Mr H. M. Tansley). The ceremony is to be on the. same lines as that of former years, commencing at 10.30 a.m. with the laying of wreaths on the cenotaph. Returned soldiers, South African war veterans, school children, the Waipukurau Town Band, and a firing party of cadets will attend. A service will be held in the Municipal Theatre at 10 o’clock, the programme being as follows:—“God Save the King”; hymn, “Onward Christian Soldiers”; prayer, Canon E. D. Rice: hymn, “O Valiant Hearts”; lesson, Captain E. Askew; hymn, “God of Our Fathers”; address, Rev. Morrison Sutherland; hymn, “O God Our Help”; benediction; Last Post, Reveille, “God Save the King.” A collection will be taken up to provide for the erection of headstones over the graves of Returned Soldiers buried in the Waipukurau Cemetery, in cases where the next-of-kin are unknown or being known are unable to provide money required for such purpose.
